It looked bad for the Cubs. We were about to fall one game behind Milwaukee in the loss column. We were losing to the Reds 6-4 in the 9th and the Brewers had already closed out a 6-0 win over Houston. Then...magic.
Theriot worked a walk. D. Lee hit a line single to right. Aramis Ramirez stepped to the plate. For me, it conjured up memories of his dramatic walk-off HR against the Brewers at the end of June. This time ARam hit a sinking liner to right-center where the Reds CF Norris Hopper, who had made a miraculous catch against Aramis earlier, just missed in his diving attemp. The triple allowed both The Riot and D. Lee to score, tying the game. Mark DeRosa, who was already 4 for 4 in the game and following an intentional walk to Daryle Ward, provided the winning hit up the middle off of the gloves of two Reds players. It was exhilarating. With "Go Cubs Go" blaring in the background the Cubs celebrated like high school kids. It was great fun.
Cliff Floyd after hitting yet another HR.
It shouldn't be forgotten the great pitching of Kevin Hart and Will Ohman who shutout the Reds on just one hit over the last 3 innings. Once again, the bullpen has been great for the last 3 1/2 months.
